13th STORY OF BHETHALA

THE STORY OF A SAINT

Vikramadithya had bound the corpse and walking towards the forest. Bhethala told the 13th story.

Once there was a ruined temple near a city, Pushpa Puram. [The meaning of this name is city of flowers] One day a Brahmin had lay in that temple with hunger. There came a saint. He had seen the situation of this Brahmin. He was pity on this poor Brahmin. He wanted to help him. He had chanted a Mantra i.e. magic word and created a city and a house in the city. The house was furnished with rich things. Its kitchen was filled with delicious dishes. The saint had taken this Brahmin to that house and made him to eat. The Brahmin had ate and taken rest. The saint wished to make the Brahmin to learn the mantra i.e. magic word. He asked the Brahmin to take holy bathe in the lake beside there. The Brahmin had dipped in the lake. In the first dip, the Brahmin had a dream. In that dream, he had seen his son standing in front of his eyes. After getting up from water, the Brahmin had noticed there was no body. He could understand that he had a dream. After reaching on to the bank of lake, the Brahmin told this to the saint. The saint felt grievance towards his own waste trail. He said, “Sorry my boy! Un-necessarily I had taken pain and I made you to take pain. This mantra won’t fruitful to you. Please you go on your way.” By saying like this, the saint left there. The Brahmin felt sad. As un-alternative, he had returned to his place.

Bhethala asked the king “Oh Vikramadithya. Why did the saint said such. The mantra was fruitful to the saint. Then why wouldn’t fruitful to the poor Brahmin?”

Vikramadithya said, “Bhethala! To perform Vratham, careful meditation, donation, learning and Mantra, we should require fully concentrated mind. This poor Brahmin didn’t have it. That’s why the saint had dropped his idea to make the Brahmin to learn the mantra. That’s all.”

Because it was the correct answer and the silence was broken, Bhethala reached again the Moduga tree.
